The Project

Growing
premium kava
from the ground up

“Moana Planting Group is built around the belief that a thriving supply chain and a thriving community are the same thing — Pacific land, Pacific people, global markets.”

Moana Group International · Programme Philosophy

Kava plant — Piper methysticum

Moana Planting Group (MPG) is a greenhouse propagation and community partnership model delivering export-quality noble kava from the Vavau Islands of Tonga to international markets.

The programme tackles a critical gap in the global kava supply chain: consistent, traceable, export-ready stock. Through centrally propagated seedlings of selected noble varieties, we control quality from the earliest stage — dramatically reducing early die-off and ensuring only the strongest plants reach our partner farmers’ fields.

01
Controlled Propagation

Greenhouse-raised noble kava seedlings with targeted ≤15% mortality rate — vs. far higher losses in open-field conditions.

02
Community Partnership

Partner farmers receive 50–60% of net kava powder revenue — not as contractors, but as genuine commercial partners in the supply chain.

03
Export Supply Chain

Integrated logistics through Fiji-based processing, producing traceable kava powder for international extract producers and premium buyers.

Community Model

Farmers as
partners,
not labour

Moana Planting Group is structured around genuine economic equity. Participating farmers share directly in the revenue their land and stewardship generates.

MGI supplies all infrastructure: greenhouse propagation, seedlings, training, harvest coordination, logistics, and export management. Farmers contribute land, daily care, and local knowledge.

As production volumes grow, so do farmer returns — creating a self-reinforcing cycle of community benefit and programme growth.
